Maha Shivaratri means "The Night of Shiva". The ceremonies take place chiefly at night. This is a festival observed in honour of Lord Shiva. Shiva was married to Parvati on this day. Navaratri is nine days when we thank the female principle of nature and the goddesses connected to them. Evenings and nights were chosen as the ideal times to celebrate this festival. On one night, on Ashtami, a Jagran is also dedicated to Mata Ji and this is where devotees stay up all night, singing the goddesses praises. This is also performed at the Mandir in Walsall.17th December: Anniversary of Mandir Baba Balak Nath Opening:
On the JethaRavivaar of Indian month Poh (18th December) 1983 the Mandir Baba Balak Nath, Walsall was officially declared open by Shri 1008 Mahant Shiv Giri Ji Maharaj of Guffa Shri Baba Balak Nath, DeotSidh, Hamirpur, H.P., India and is the only recognized temple (by the Guffa) dedicated to Shri Baba Balak Nath Ji outside of India. Every year on JethaRavivaar of Indian month Poh (Mid December) this anniversary is celebrated.
